Depression.
That seems to be "in-thing" nowadays. It seems rather cool sometimes to have "depression" even if the one undergoing such feelings may not quite feel the same way. Most of the time, depression is something that people use frivolously to explain a rather low time in their lives when the actual illness in itself, is no where close to being as easily explained.
Depressed.
That is feeling that most of us can relate to. That's also the feeling that is usually associated with depression. But just because you're depressed doesn't mean that you have depression. Frankly, it's difficult for me to know the difference between the two. I guess, if you're feeling really bad, it might be good to consult an expert on the matter - and I do not mean your friendly google.com.
Anyway, why am I starting off with the D-word?
For the past week(s), I've seen/heard/felt (maybe even smelled) sadness all around me. I guess the release of CT results wasn't exactly the perfect mood-lifter among the students, not to mention among the teachers. It seems everyone's going through a rough period these days. It must be tough-going thus, the tough must get on going. Personally, life's not been too great for me either. I don't know if it's just a passing phase, a prelude to depression or perhaps, a reality check of sorts. All I know is that, I've been feeling a little low.
However, given my job, I can't be "low" when I'm teaching now, can I? It just doesn't work that way. Anyway, it seems almost impossible to indulge in self-pity with things moving as fast as they are. So, I've just been going with the flow. In a weird way, that actually helps coz I sorta forget life's troubles and move on. It's when I have time such as now that this feeling of lowly emptiness sinks in again.
Now, that just isn't healthy. So, I've decided to compile a series of "methods" people use in dealing with problems:
1. Drink and be merry (Erm, no. First and foremost, I can't drink. Second, I don't drink. Third, I won't drink.)
2. Read.
3. Sleep.
4. Watch a movie.
5. Shop.
6. Have a talk.
7. Take a walk.
8. Do extreme sports.
9. Exercise.
10. Run.
11. Paint/Sketch/Draw.
12. Play games.
13. Sing.
14. Crap.
15. Any other way...
Anything else to add?
